Letter to the people of OtleyAs the vice president of Otley Social Club I would like to tell you a little bit about the club and what benefits it has for the community of otley and it's current members.By taking a look around the website you will see that we cater for a wide variety of people, young and old. If you haven't visited us for a while you will have noticed that the club has changed a little since you last came in. The old tacky furniture has been replaced with more modern and comfortable furniture. This was done to change the image of the club as it was looking dated and in order to attract people in we decided to do a refurbishment.
One great facility this club has to offer to the people of Otley is the free hire of the concert room. The room is a perfect venue for birthday and wedding parties, engagements, fundraising nights and community meetings. To get a room this size for these kind of events for free is very rare around here as alot of places charge an hourly rate and also ask you to pay for the bar staff, We dont.
So why consider being a member here? Well for a start it's a cheap and affordable night out as our prices are club prices and therefore cheaper than pub prices. The other reason I think you should consider being a member is the fact that you can socialise with other people from the area.
I would like this club to be a leading example that a members voice counts and that the club land needs to come into the future instead of living in the past. Clubs used to be well supported years ago but unfortunately the people who ran them had the attitude that if it suits the committee then it's ok and sod the members. That's the sort of pig headed attitude that has dragged the club image down and forced alot to close. Members are the people who put the money behind the bar and pay their subs every year and as a result have as much say in club affairs as a committee does.
The club is now completely smoke free and we have now built a raised patio area at the front of the club for all members to use, a smokers shelter will be completed shortly.
I would like to end this letter by inviting every person who has viewed this site to come up and see the club in person, It really is a charming place to drink and meet new people and feel part of the local community.
